Position and ResponsibilitiesThe Senior Staff Estimator (SSE) is a
recognized technical expert in one or more specialty areas. - The
SSE provides cost planning and cost estimating on assigned
projects, is experienced in EPC projects, and has depth in
experience in estimating Total Installed Cost in a multitude of
project phases and estimate types. The SSE provides recommendations
based on analyses, investigations related to defining
opportunities, may work on an individual basis, may supervise other
estimators on large assignments, and will take the lead on large
project estimates. Services include preparing cost estimates,
contingency analysis, and cost modeling throughout the life cycle
of a project, program or other related work activity. - The SSE
mentors and trains estimators to develop/maintain area(s) of
technical expertise. - Responsibilities include, but are not
limited to, the following:
- Lead and mentor estimators within the office and remote staff
in start-up offices or task force large projects where training,
consistency in process, and regular follow-up is required to
properly implement cost estimating services.
- Develop and manage the development of cost estimates of all
levels and accompanying Basis of Estimate with every estimate.
- Plan and provide cost estimating support of a project or
business unit and guide/coach junior estimators. -
- Proactively develop, plan, calculate, and convey scope,
schedule, and cost data for projects.
- Use Middough Advance Project Procedures (MAPP) as a tool for
project implementation and complies with procedural requirements,
train junior staff on MAPP procedures.
- Develop the scope, schedule, budget and estimates to complete
data for assigned tasks; oversee and/or audit the same process for
junior staff. -
- Lead and manage the creation of Work Breakdown Structures (WBS)
and development of schedules and budget data (including resource
loading) for those WBS elements.
- Analyze unit rates to be sure they are well understood and
defendable to peer review; train junior staff on how to analyze
unit rates.
- Maintain an industry database or access to public databases of
current labor, material, and equipment rates, cost escalation
trends, and labor availability information.
- Manage and/or assemble cost data and inputs for dissemination
into the project control database and/or the project or leadership
before, during, and after the project is complete.
- Analyze estimate preparation progress and performance and
identify developing problem areas.
- Periodically participate in claim support information
development and claims analysis and negotiation relating to cost
estimates.
- Prepare reports and financial information for the Project
Accountant, Controller, and/or Project Manager or Senior Project
Manager when requested.
- Assist in managing and maximizing profit margins.
- Advise management of risks that may affect project profit,
costs, schedules and client relations.
- Support the Project Management team in maintaining timely and
effective change management processes.Education, Experience and
Skills:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or
Business.
- Hands-on experience with Timberline, US Cost, Icarus
(Aspentech), Richardsons, R.S. Means Costworks and/or similar
estimating software.
- 25+ years of experience in estimating TIC on multiple project
types.
- Estimating experience on engineering, EPC, and
construction-only projects.
- Expert level of knowledge principles and concepts of cost
engineering concepts as they relate to budgeting, monitoring, and
tracking actual costs, change orders and forecasting.
- Effectively lead, coach, mentor, and train junior staff
members.
- Experience with Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Project
Software.
- Expert ability to problem solve and/or use data analysis to
make decisions.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Excellent multitasking and organizational abilities for project
efficiency.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills. - Physical
