Role Overview and Responsibilities

2nd Shift Position

Summary: Responsible for the inspection and rework of electronic materials and assemblies for conformance to established specifications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Other duties may be assigned.

  • perform general area/equipment/machine cleaning
  • utilize proper technique for clinching and trimming leads, not only for good workmanship but also to avoid flying leads and potential personal safety as well as FOD (Foreign Object Debris) issues
  • proper material handling techniques to ensure component reliability and to avoid damaging components and boards - includes using gloves, finger cots
  • set-up, verify, and use tools and equipment in area, and is certified when required on machines in area
  • operate and verify settings of torque wrenches per SOP07/2-37
  • identify and segregate non-conforming material (NCM)
  • review shelf life of materials prior to usage (when applicable)
  • follow requirements for 1st piece inspections and in-process audits
  • utilize proper handling precautions when working with process chemicals and materials
  • measure height requirements with appropriate measuring tools when required
  • retrieve manufacturing instructions
  • identify work order, assembly number, and revision level of assembly from manufacturing instructions
  • perform proper set up and operation of the thermal transfer printers and can navigate the Easylabel label printing program
  • correctly handles a process deviation or ECR is in the manufacturing instructions
  • work without assistance using manufacturing instructions with acceptable quality results
  • follow proper protocol for contacting ME and Maintenance personnel for modifications or alterations to equipment, tooling, fixtures, etc.
  • follow process as specified in manufacturing instructions and understand that deviating without documented approval by ME may result in disciplinary action
  • use the appropriate method of requesting changes, corrections or clarification to a manufacturing instruction
  • perform basic cleaning/upkeep on solder stations
  • use proper application techniques of thermal compound, hot melt glue/RTV, etc.
  • set up, log, and use torque wrenches using SOP 07/2-37, if required Qualifications, Skills and Attributes

    Qualifications: to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The Team Member must be able to maintain confidentiality and have good judgment. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.     Team Member is considered certified at the skilled level because all items below have been verified at the basic understanding level.
    • proper wire harness assembly and soldering, if applicable
    • MSDS sheets and their location
    • certified to operate board de-panelizer, if required
    • workmanship standards pertaining to assigned work for both SMT and Through-Hole
    • IPC 610 and/or related documents, i.e. Emerson Workmanship Standards
    • calibration label paths associated with Easylabel software
    • solder station operation
    • has current temporary soldering permit or permanent solder certification, Category 1 Type 1 or 2 (at a minimum)
    • component ID training
    • completed quality systems training
    • all safety and Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) requirements of the area
    • principles of ESD and uses ESD precautions in material handling
    • inventory control methods (i.e. shortages, NCM process, and understand of work order system)
    • completed IPC workmanship training
    • all material transactions within computer (inventory audit trails)
    • ECR database
    • ITAR restrictions when dealing with badges and ITAR related materials and documentation
    • the 6S system (Sort, Simplify, Sweep, Standardize, Self-Discipline, Safety) and adheres to and encourages others to comply with the principles
    • the Green Sheet program and our efforts to continuously improve
    • the company's mission statement, quality policy and performance metrics

      Physical Demands: The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by Team Member to successfully perform of the essential functions of this job.

      Medium: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

      Constantly finger, grasp, hear, do repetitive motions 90-100% of the time; frequently reach, 60-90% of the time; Occasionally stoop, stand, push, pull, lift, talk 30-60%

      Visual Acuity: The Team member is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities for operation of machines, including visual inspection, using measurement devices; and/or assembly of parts at distances close to the eyes. Ability or increased ability to see color, or perceive color differences, under normal lighting conditions.

      Work Environment: The Team member is subject to inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but not room temperature changes, there is sufficient noise to cause the worker to increase volume in order to be heard above ambient noise level. The Team Member is constantly exposed to high heat and chemicals and is required to safety glasses (90-100%).

      Team Member is required to work overtime on a frequent basis.
