Job Description:
Overview: Mid-West Forge is looking for a skilled machinist with
specified experience using CNC lathes, mills and related machinery.
This person will be hired in as a Senior Machinist and will operate
computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools, such as lathes
and milling machines, which are used to cut and produce precision
parts for machines, instruments, and tools. The Senior Machinist
repairs or produces parts using both manual and automated equipment
with precise measurements. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for all aspects of set-up and operation of all die room
machinery Reads blueprints, prints tolerancing and performs all
basic machine shop practices Preforms routine & scheduled
maintenance of the machines including changing and maintaining
fluids, cleaning the machines, and making sure the machines are
function properly day to day Ability to use measuring instruments
such as micrometers, calipers, and other gages to ensure
conformance to specifications. Monitors machine, tooling and
cutting fluid levels. Help ensure production and inventory control
by preforming cycle counts, updating inventory levels, and basic
documentation for both production and inventory control Reviews
samples, drawings, or instructions to understand specifications of
output. Plans the sequence of necessary actions for the completion
of a job. Monitors output to ensure consistency with specifications
and discard defects. Ensures that the lubrication / coolant tanks
are filled, and chip buckets are emptied as necessary. Cleans work
area, machines, tools, and equipment. Follows all safety and plant
rules and regulations. Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory
responsibilities. Education and/or Experience: High school diploma
or general education degree (GED). Must have at least 2 years
experience setting up CNC machines Must be able to read blueprints
General Experience with tooling changes, offsets, fixture offsets
and probing offsets Advanced ability with measuring own part using
micrometers, calipers, gauges, height gauges Key Competencies
Communication Skills: Ability to read and write simple
instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to
effectively report relevant data and job specific information as
needed. Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform intermediate to
advanced level mathematics. Computer Skills: Ability to navigate
basic-intermediate level technology including but not limited to
use of digital self-service platforms, time clocks and other
systems where applicable. Additional Preferred Skills and
Experience: Vocational school or apprenticeship is a plus.
Excellent manual dexterity, accuracy, and attention to detail.
Knowledge of metal properties and other material. Satisfactory
completion of Bennett Mechanical Comprehension Test. Experience
using 5-Axis and related machinery. Physical Demands: Stand, walk,
push, pull, squat, bend, and reach during shifts. Use carts,
dollies, cranes and jacks to transport material if needed. Must be
able to regularly lift and or move up to 50 lbs. Tolerate
potentially extreme temperature fluctuations impacted by weather
and machinery. Acclimate to high noise and vibration levels in
workspaces. Wear and adhere to all PPE guidelines including hard
hats, protective eye wear, ear plugs, and approved footwear with
metatarsal and steel toe safeguards. Work Environment: The Senior
Machinist interacts with historic machinery throughout the facility
which often involves proximity to heat, noise, debris, overhead
cranes and other potentially dangerous equipment. The Senior
Machinist may encounter high levels of floor and overhead traffic
due to material transportation within the department which can
cause vibration and airborne disturbances. Qualified applicants
