The health system is home to Cuyahoga Countys most experienced Level I Adult Trauma Center, verified since 1992, and Ohios only adult and pediatric trauma and burn center. As an academic medical center, MetroHealth is committed to teaching and research. Each active staff physician holds a faculty appointment at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Summary: Summary:Under the general supervision of the Lieutenant, assists in the supervision of personnel involved in establishing, promoting, and maintaining hospital security and property protection programs, and/or performs support services for the department. May perform all the normal duties of Patrolman, Dispatcher, and/or Corporal in addition to duties associated with this role. Promotes positive public and staff relations and upholds the reputation of the uniform/department. Upholds the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of the MetroHealth System. Responsibilities: Responsibilities:1. Responsible for performing the job duties of a MetroHealth Patrolman, Dispatcher, and/or Corporal when required. 2. Supervises assigned officers, depending on shift and location of assignment.3. Acts as a senior officer in a tactical or emergency situation until relieved by a higher ranking officer. 4. Reviews officer reports on a daily basis. Checks for accuracy, spelling, completeness, skill gaps, trends, and other relevant information that would reasonably be reported to higher leadership. Assures appropriate addendums, attachments, etc. are completed (use of force, etc.)5. Conducts thorough investigations of incidents and notifies Cleveland Police when appropriate.6. Confers with the Lieutenant, and Director of Protective Services on issues of policy and other management concerns when appropriate.7. Ensures light, panic alarm, intercom, and other inspections are completed.8. Performs departmental and hospital wide in-services, as needed.9. Responds and assists with all medical and non-medical emergencies as required. 10. Advises Lieutenant, and Director of trends, vulnerabilities, risks, and other situations that risk loss of or damage to MHS property or injury to its employees, patients, and visitors. Assists other MHS officers and officers of other law enforcement agencies as needed.11. Attends committee, Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), and management meetings, as appropriate.12. Effectively communicates administrative directives to personnel and encourages interactive departmental meetings and discussions.13. Acts as a liaison between the MetroHealth administration and outside law enforcement agencies.14. Takes responsibility for self-development and supports an environment of learning. 15. Responsible for creating and maintaining positive relationships with organizational leaders, customers, and vendors.16. Performs annual performance reviews of assigned personnelSupport Services Sergeant Special Duties:Additional responsibilities for Sergeants working in Support Services.1. Oversees and manages Department of Public Safety operational aspects.2. Under the general supervision of the Administrative Lieutenant:a. Develops training materials and implementation plans for the organization and the department.b. Evaluate training competencies of trainers and training materials for proposed topics.c. Conducting needs analysis as requested.d. Collaborating and assisting roll out of organizational training initiatives as requested.e. Achieves and maintains instructor level competencies as requested.3. Maintains accurate departmental records/databases related to training, equipment and operations.4. Organize, coordinate and/or plan community events (including crime prevention initiatives) as requested.5. Participates in policy writing, research and grant writing as requested. 6. Assists in developing presentation materials, newsletters and documentation as assigned. Qualifications: Other information:Required:High School Diploma or passage of a high school equivalency exam. Age 21 or older.Three to five years of experience in the field of security management or law enforcement.Private Security Officers Training Course with Firearms Course (semiautomatic pistols) or Police Officer Basic Academy (both must meet requirements and be sanctioned by Ohio Police Officer Training Commission). Background check that is acceptable to the Director and Chief of Public Safety.Obtains a Cleveland Commission to carry firearms within 120 days of employment.Required to achieve and maintain departments qualifying firearms score for duration of employment.Must be able to maintain minimum skill based competencies as identified by the department during term of employment.Possesses a valid Ohio drivers license (and ability to obtain and maintain eligibility of insurability as determined by the MHS insurance carriers requirements to operation MHS vehicles) and reliable transportation to report to alternate sites during shift.Knowledge of the concepts/processes of laws of arrest, search and seizure, use of deadly force, and physical security systems. Must understand the permitted actions appropriate to the commission held.High degree of analytical ability to investigate incidents, interpret and translate information (including for use as evidence of prosecution) and other criminal justice and administrative processes.High level of integrity required for handling sensitive/confidential MHS data and resources.Advanced communications skills to include following de-escalation verbal strategies and written grammar, etc. to produce professional reports/documents.A psychological evaluation from a MetroHealth System designated Psychologist which demonstrates satisfactory psychological fitness commensurate with the role of an armed officer.PreferredPrevious supervisory experience in the Security or Law Enforcement Field.Associates or Bachelor Degree in a job-related field.Certification through International Association of Healthcare Safety and Security as a Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA) HPA or American Society of Industrial Security as a Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Physical Security Professional (PSP), or Professional Certified Investigator (PCI).The ability to be commissioned by the Ohio Secretary of State pursuant to ORC 4917(D).Physical Requirements:If hired after 11/1/14, will be required to pass a physical agility/fitness test that is based on essential job requirements. Thereafter, must pass the test annually to maintain employment.Must maintain adequate physical fitness level to perform essential physical aspects of the job effectively with minimized risk to self and others. To include:o Full body motion, physical strength, and stamina sufficient to chase, apprehend, and/or subdue individuals.o Approximately 2 minutes continuous physical conflict on an occasional basis.o Physical ability to run in spurts and ascend/descend multiple flights of steps quickly.o Drag loads of
