Economic Assistance Specialist - Wooster We strengthen the
community through collaborations and services by promoting
self-sufficiency, household stability and family and childhood
education. From early childhood education to home repair, CAW/M
provides an environment of friendly customer service. JOB SUMMARY:
The Economic Assistance Specialist assists in carrying out the
mission of providing comprehensive energy assistance counseling and
economic assistance services for individuals and/or families.
Responsible for determining eligibility of customers based on
guidelines of the programs and providing appropriate assistance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION: 1) Conducts customer
interviews to identify customer needs. 2) Understands program
eligibility guidelines in order to process applications or make
appropriate referrals. 3) Determines eligibility requirements using
the state program approved methods; this could include verifying
income sources and calculating income. 4) Accurately enters
customer's program required information in computerized database
and files. 5) Processes applications for clients requesting
assistance from the Home Energy Assistance Program, Percentage of
Income Payment Plan program, Summer and Winter Crisis programs, the
Community Service Block Grant program and other available economic
assistance programs. 6) Completes client energy and economic
assistance applications through client meetings, phone contact, or
mail requests. 7) Works with vendors in providing and administering
all programs. 8) Frequently interacts with clients, vendors, or
other social service agency staff to exchange detailed and/or
technical information. 9) Keeps immediate supervisor informed of
all problems, unusual or extraordinary matters of significance, so
prompt corrective action can be taken where appropriate. 10)
Communicates courteously and professionally and maintains working
relationships with others in carrying out job functions. 11)
Resolves customer inquiries and concerns with timely callbacks. 12)
Promotes program events as needed. 13) Provides referral
information for staff and clients. 14) Enters program and customer
intake data into computerized data tracking system. 15) Maintains
and updates program and customer files as needed. 16) Maintains all
records, customer confidentiality, and data privacy according to
agency and program guidelines. 17) Meets all job safety
requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain
to essential functions of position. OTHER DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES (INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO): --- Be
knowledgeable of all agency programming and community resources;
collaborate with staff and external sources for the coordination of
services. --- Supports outreach sites and events. --- Conducts
scheduled appointments. --- Ability to function independently and
as a team player in a fast-paced environment. --- Ability to
navigate programs including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat and the
State of Ohio's Community Energy Assistance Network. --- Provides
back up coverage for reception when needed. --- Demonstrates
regular and predictable attendance. --- Other administrative duties
as assigned. MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE CHARACTERISTICS: (*Indicates
developed after employment) Demonstrate compassion and an ability
to work with low income persons from diverse populations and be
able to work in a fast-paced, multi-task environment. Knowledge of:
program standards, agency policies and procedures, agency mission
and goals, community resources, data entry and invoicing
guidelines, customer service standards, time management,
scheduling, customer interviewing techniques, training, and team
building relationships. Skill in: Ability to work with a variety of
people and across diverse cultures. Ability to: consistently
provide responsive customer service; create a positive awareness of
CAW/M programs; organize files; calculate income correctly;
correlate files with appropriate invoices and billing cycles;
communicate effectively both orally and written, on the phone and
in person, one on one and in groups; document accurately; interpret
instructions and relay information; develop and maintain effective
working relationships; problem solve; prioritize department needs;
meet deadlines; resolve complaints in an emotionally mature
professional manner; express beliefs and needs in a positive way;
perform well in a team; respond to changes in program need in a
timely manner; train or instruct others; handle inquiries from
grant officials, board members, and the general public; travel to
work sites and other locations; travel overnight MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS: --- High school diploma or GED --- One year of
experience in social work, customer service and data entry, or a
related field LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: --- Must
possess a valid State of Ohio driver's license and remain insurable
in accordance with the Agency's vehicle insurance policy. EQUIPMENT

telephone, copier, and other standard business office equipment.
INHERENTLY HAZARDOUS OR PHYSICALLY DEMANDING WORKING CONDITIONS:
The employee has exposure to chemical compounds found in an office
environment (e.g., toner, correction fluid, etc.), potentially
emotionally distraught individuals and has exposure to possible
injury due to unclean or unsanitary conditions. Note: In accordance
with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength
