Portage County Combined General Health District NURSING DIVISION JOB POSTING Position: Data InformaticianDepartment: Nursing DivisionLocation: Ravenna, OhioPosition Type: Full-Time - Non-exemptWork Schedule: Office Hours are Monday - Friday 8:00am- 4:30pm Hours may vary. May require some weekend and evening work.Salary Range: $23.00- $28.00 per hourReports To: Rosemary Ferraro, Director of NursingThe Informatics Specialist is accountable and responsible for utilizing skills in public health, computer science and information technology to help Portage County Health District and the Nursing Division enter, store, and retrieve large amounts of data as it applies to public health, especially clinical care. Informatics Specialist aims to improve the accuracy of the Health District's data and improve overall efficiency and security of data information systems. This position works alongside the epidemiologist(s) to ensure accurate data is collected, stored, and securely distributed.Please bring samples of what you have created that would demonstrate your analytical skills or relevant work related to this position.Job Description: Develops and maintains public health data systems and internal database systems needed for supporting data collection, standardization, and storage. Develops and maintains other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency for data quality. Works with Clear Impact, ImpactSIS, OCTS, ODRS, Health Space and HDIS.Maintains data collection computer programs through the detection and remediation of "bugs" or computer program deficiencies.Creates new programming features to expand data collection capabilities and compatibility of current applications and databases.Training for public health staff, especially nursing staff, on health information systems deployment and management.Providing technical support for optimizing patient/client/community data security and maintaining databases.Ensuring compliance in healthcare information management regulations.Evaluates effects of systems on individuals and populations for patient responses, efficiency, cost effectiveness, customer satisfaction, and ethical considerations.Identifies interpersonal, technological, environmental or system barriers to implantation process and shares findings to make effective changes in processes that best benefits the communities Portage County serves.Collaborates with epidemiologist and nurses to obtain input to assist in the designing and redesigning of process to fully optimize the use of information systems for patient care and community data.Develops and extracts reports from databases for delivery to internal and external customers. Gathers and organizes documents to satisfy public record requests or other reporting obligations.Collects, interprets, and summarizes data. Statistical analysis based on data. Identifies data patterns and trends.Presents information using data visualization techniques.   • Valid driver's license and insurance
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, informatics, applied math or related field required. Master's degree preferred.
  • Background in data mining and statistical analysis preferredSkills/ Abilities:
    • Advanced proficiency with Tableau, SPSS, ARC-GIS, Microsoft office suite (i.e., Outlook, Excel,OneDrive, SharePoint, etc.) and in programming languages (i.e., SQL, etc.)
      • Ability to provide excellent customer service in verbal and written communication, including cultural sensitivity & competence.
      • Ability to proofread documents for content, grammar, and spelling.
      • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
      • Extensive knowledge of data preparation procedures and data management.
      • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
      • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
      • Excellent communication and collaboration abilitiesPre-Employment Testing Requirements: Criminal Background Check and Pre-employment Drug TestingWork Environment: General office setting in the Health Department facility requiring sedentary to light work which may include sitting, walking, climbing, reaching, standing, talking, and listening with occasional exposure to adverse environmental conditions. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
