Summary

This position is responsible for overseeing the execution of merchandise selection and procurement for a particular segment of the business. The DMM will set the merchandise direction to ensure a focused continuity on the selling floor. They will cultivate new business opportunities by penetrating existing/new markets that complement our core businesses. The DMM will develop the strategies that increase market share, store productivity, while driving incremental profit. They will also work closely with the field team and other cross functional departments in strategizing new product concepts, merchandising techniques, or processes to ensure seamless execution and customer satisfaction. The Divisional Merchandise Manager is responsible for supporting and developing their direct reports and an environment that encourages continuous improvement in results and leadership of others. Business volume range as follows: Annual sales $360-$662 million, Annual gross margin $180-$340 million, Annual cost purchases $186-$300 million, Annual net margin $165-$330 million, Total article count of 20,000 -70,000 between basic, fashion, and dot c.

Description

* Achieving financial metrics- Manages sales, margins, and P&L. Plan, coordinate, monitor and execute the division's financial and merchandising goals. Develops and implements marketing strategies for both stores and ecommce. Develops and implements financial profit and loss budgets and capital expendies. Reviews analyses of activities, costs, operations, and forecast data to determine divisions progress toward stated goals and objectives. Takes action in setting a course to achieve metrics. Reviews and formulates various budgets within group on a semi-annual and annual basis. Ensure that pricing, promotional strategies, and marketing support the financial objectives of the merchandise division. Partners with cross functional team members in assuring assortments are correct, financial plans and or open to buy dollars are appropriate, presentation standards are correct, and store allocations are appropriate. Continuously works to set JOANN apart from the competition in product, results, and experience. * Developing Team Members - Participates in meetings with supervisor, buyer, teams, and department heads; directs and coordinates activities within department for which responsibility is delegated for further attainment of goals and objectives. Works to develop and maintain a sales and team attitude in office and stores. Reviews operations with a view toward continuous improvement in direct reports, product, and service. Fosters an environment that promotes personal development of buyers and their businesses, high morale amongst entire buying team and personally sets the example for development of associate and assistant buyers. Work with the buyers to strengthen market relationships and knowledge of market trend, strengths and weaknesses. Takes accountability for the growth and development of their team members. Sets clear expectations and holds people accountable. Coaches and develops team members to help build skill and enhance performance, leading to succession planning and development. Supports peer groups in developing others. Recognizes others and councils in private. Takes action, in partnership with GMM and/or HR, on under-performing team members. * Improving the Shopping Experience - Understand competitors strengths, weaknesses and strategy. Drives for best in class experience for the division. Monitors all store operations looking for efficiencies in execution. Develops and implements merchandising strategies that differentiates JOANN from the competition. Works closely with Store Planning in new designs and concepts to test, evaluate, and react to. Maintains an awareness of and evaluates the effectiveness of current industry trends and products. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Sets vision and direction, across entire division, in creating impact and excitement in every plan-o-gram and or plan-o-guide. * Product and Newness - Sets vision and direction of assortments to ensure a strong continuity in stores. Oversees the selection, procurement, and execution of merchandise for stores. Supports direct reports in taking calculated risks. Aggressively going after trends, new products, and new product categories. Actively engages product development, sourcing, and builds strong profit margins and value statements for our customers both in stores and online. * Travel and Negotiation - Supports buying staff with the vendor community to ensure that Jo-Ann obtains merchandise exclusives, product launches, best deliveries, and the desired sales, turn-over and margin plans. Builds and sustains best in class vendor/factory relationships. Actively negotiates the best quality, and value for our customers. Seeks to understand other's position and points of view and works to increase the benefits for all. Negotiates for the long term. Does so in accordance with the JOANN values. Manages and maintains strong vendor, agent, and factory relationships to drive business, improve sales and productivity. Negotiates with vendors on pricing, marketing allowances, co-op monies, new store discounts, exclusive products, new events, contracts, return allowances, to name a few. * Improves processes and efficiencies - Leverage the learnings. Is responsible for synthesizing all learnings from all processes, systems, and projects into user-friendly lessons that are fully leveraged across the organization. Act as change catalyst. Is responsible to transform vision into reality that is practical and executable by using cross-functional teams, resources, project management and business performance tools. Pushes to streamline processes and simplify tasks and or functions. Actively learns new systems and or processes that can benefit self and others. * This position requires up to 30% travel and may require working occasional weekends (e.g. Trade shows, domestic and international travel, etc.) to meet desired objectives.

Education

Minimum: 4 Year Bachelor's Degree

Preferred: MBA

Experience

Minimum: 8+ years experience in developing and executing a business plan from a merchandising and financial perspective. Demonstrates ability to lead cross-functional teams with a minimum of six years in multiple Buying roles.
