Job Description:

The MetroHealth System, Cuyahoga Countys public health system, and its staff of nearly 8,000 provides care at MetroHealths four hospitals, four emergency departments and more than 20 health centers and 40 additional sites throughout Cuyahoga County. The health system is home to Cuyahoga Countys most experienced Level I Adult Trauma Center, verified since 1992, and Ohios only adult and pediatric trauma and burn center. S ummary:
Operates/inspects/performs preventative maintenance on major HVAC/hospital equipment, and repairs malfunctions if possible. Operates/performs routine maintenance of all Power House/major HVAC equipment. Monitors various hospital equipment from the control center. Responds to/mitigates/reports any building emergencies. Upholds mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System.
Responsibilities:

1.Operates/inspects/performs preventative maintenance on major HVAC/hospital equipment, and repairs malfunctions if possible, by:

a. Operating chillers/pumps/air handlers/other associated equipment, either manually or with direct digital controls.

b. Monitoring HVAC equipment/direct digital control system(s), and correcting malfunctions.

c. Obtaining/analyzing water samples from heating and cooling water systems, and adding chemicals to these systems as required.

d. Operating emergency generators.

e. Monitoring the functionality of the tube system, troubleshooting issues, and performing basic tube system repairs; escalating larger issues to appropriate parties as needed.

2.Responding to emergency calls from anywhere/by anybody in The MetroHealth System, mitigates the situation to the extent possible, reports the situation to appropriate individuals, and calling for assistance as appropriate, including:

a. Repairing and minimizing leaks in high-pressure steam/air/water/gas lines.

b. Locking out faulty elevators and safely removing passengers from stalled elevators as needed.

c. Investigating electrical troubles, replacing fuses, and resetting breakers.

d. Responding to fire alarms, and taking appropriate action.

e. Contracting appropriate staff and/or outside parties/organizations for a timely response to emergencies.

f. Documents emergency events and their responses (i.e., the event itself, the time the event occurred, actions taken, and outcomes).

3.Operates/performs routine maintenance on all boilers/Power House equipment by:

a. Operating boilers and related equipment manually from the boiler room, or from the remote control center.

b. Chemically testing/treating water, and adding chemicals as needed.

c. Observing, inspecting, cleaning, and/or repairing boilers/ Power House equipment.

d. Inputting maintenance work order information into appropriate system(s) to generate work orders.

e. Documenting required readings regarding boilers/generators/diesel fuel tanks/other equipment as assigned.

4.Receives emergency calls from supervisory personnel regarding work requests, and informs the shift foreman of the request.

5.Performs outside maintenance as needed, including snow removal, lawn maintenance, and general upkeep of the grounds.

6.Safely/efficiently drives MetroHealth System service vehicles as needed.

7.Ensures that work areas/equipment rooms/buildings are well-maintained, clean, physically safe, accessible, and provides a welcoming environment to patients/staff/visitors.

8.Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment/supplies.

9.Promotes continuous improvement in regards to workplace safety and environmental practices.

10.Accurately accounts for time/material use on a daily basis by using the appropriate maintenance software.

11.Incorporates principles of teamwork in the resolution, completion, and follow-up of various responsibilities

12.Keeping current with trends, developments, and practices in field related to work assignment.

13.Displays sensitivity to and understanding of various cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

14.Performs other functionally related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Required:
HS Diploma or passage of a high school equivalency exam.
Documented completion of coursework/training focusing on stationary engineering, air conditioning, refrigeration, steam fitting, and/or electricity at an accredited school.
Possess a minimum of a 3rd Class Stationary Engineers License for the State of Ohio.
4 years of documented experience as a Licensed Stationary Engineer.
Possess a current, valid Drivers License.
Ability to read and utilize blue prints.
Solid problem solving skills, and able to use sound judgment.
Good interpersonal skills.
Basic personal computer skills.
Basic math skills.
Ability to follow directions.
Ability to work independently/with minimal supervision, or as part of a team.
Willing and able to adjust from the standard work schedule as needed for operational coverage, including days that are not normally worked, and at locations not normally assigned.

Preferred:
Prior experience operating a 200 ton or larger capacity chiller(s).
8 years of experience as a Licensed Stationary Engineer.
Prior Healthcare industry experience.

Physical Requirements:
May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and ambulate intermittently during the day.
May need to sit or stand for extended periods.
See in the normal visual range with or without correction.
Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
Ability to climb intermittently during the day.
Ability to push/pull 70-150 pounds.
Ability to lift 10-40 pounds.
Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids.
Requires some exposure to chemicals and cleaning products.
