Tremco CPG has an open position for a Building Science Specialist. The Building Science Specialist is responsible for internal testing procedures and programs used to establish a high-performance system integration for all Tremco products and systems. The Specialist will be a decision maker throughout the testing process and key in frequent customer interactions during testing and customer visits monthly. The Specialist will be responsible for documenting the performance differences in building materials or methods in a clear and concise manner to provide thought leadership content for building consultants in online posts, presentations, white papers, journal articles or videos. They will also be involved with customers in the development of testing protocol for critical connections in the building enclosure and have the ability to present these findings in clear and concise manner. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Sustainable Buildings Test Facility (Test Wall):
    • Test to ASTM E283, ASTM E331, ASTM E330, ASTM E547, ASTM E2357 and IBC 1403.2
    • Assist in the construction and/or preparation of systems for testing.
    • Document observations and results of standard testing in detailed test reports.
    • Maintain cleanliness of laboratory environment and enforce laboratory hygiene plan.
    • Other duties as assigned.
      • Collaborate on other test methods or ways to demonstrate product/system differences.
      • Partner with third party laboratories and external organizations to further system and testing opportunities.
        • Technical Service Laboratory: Time will be spent in the laboratory constructing test samples, documenting performance, and maintaining a clean working environment. Must be familiar with a laboratory setting and safety and be able to:
          • Test to ASTM C 1248, ASTM C 1247, ASTM C 1193, ASTM C 1135, ASTM C 1087, ASTM 794, ASTM C 793, ASTM C 719, ASTM C 679, ASTM C 679, ASTM C 661, ASTM C 639 and ASTM C 510 standard test methods.
            • Prepare test substrates for testing using cutting equipment including band saw, table saw and wet saw.
            • Document observations and results of standard testing in detailed test reports.
            • Maintain organization of test articles during sample preparation, conditioning, testing and storage.
            • Maintain cleanliness of laboratory environment and enforce laboratory hygiene plan.
            • Utilize material testing equipment including microscope and Instron 5565.
              • Provide general Technical Service phone support.
              • Travel up to 25% of the time as needed to job sites and for product application support and industry related training.
              • Other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS:
                • Minimum HS Diploma or GED with 5 years' experience in a laboratory environment OR Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Biology, General Science or similar with no experience.
                • Ability to communicate to customers in a clear and concise manner.
                • Presentation skills for customer visits of groups up to 50 people
                • Report writing and interpretation skills.
                • Use of common construction tools such as wet saw, band saw and caulking gun.
                • Familiar with laboratory safety and general laboratory procedures.
                • Proficient with Power Tools, Carpentry or Builder
