TITLE Lead SQL Server Database Administrator LOCATION Orrville, OH (Greater Cleveland/Akron area) Flexible hybrid work arrangements available REPORTS TO Manager, Database Administration POSITION SUMMARY The Lead Database Administrator is responsible for architecting cloud and on-premises database solutions, while implementing and supporting sound database designs, data integrity controls, and security controls. This role will require automation tools and infrastructure as code concepts to be utilized. Under minimal guidance, this role will lead projects and assist with resource management, while supporting Infrastructure solutions that meet business needs. Collaboration with team members on standard administration tasks, such as backup and recovery, patching, upgrades, installation, configuration, monitoring, disaster recovery, meeting performance service level agreements, and effective incident resolution. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES * Architect and enhance cloud and on-premises database solutions to meet business needs, while following industry and Smucker best practices (plan, design, build, execution) * Provide thought leadership to the IS organization and collaborate with Enterprise Architects to set technical direction for database technologies for both on-premises and cloud solutions * Lead evaluation, proof of concept (POC), and initiatives for cloud technologies and platforms * Advocate for leveraging infrastructure as code principles and automation of tasks for consistency and repeatability * Collaborate with IS and business to understand data design, governance, flow, and priority * Responsible for leadership, execution and enforcement of Smucker security, auditing policies, and controls * Collaborate with team members on administration tasks such as backup and recovery, patching, upgrades, installation, configuration, monitoring, disaster recovery, performance service level agreements, and effective incident resolution * Create, maintain, and update strong technical documentation and procedures following IS department standards * Partner with Business, Infrastructure, and Development teams to use technology to solve business problems, developing and promoting efficiencies and standards * Provide 24x7 production support to meet service level availability agreements * Mentor and coach colleagues, fostering a sense of mutual commitment to excellence * Lead/Manages projects/initiatives with manageable risks and resource requirements * Under minimal guidance, be accountable for the design, construction, execution, and delivery of project related tasks SELECTION CRITERIA Education * Bachelor's degree in related field, specialized training or equivalent work experience. Bachelor's degree in MIS or Computer Science preferred. Experience * 3+ years of Cloud Architect/Cloud Engineering/Cloud Database technologies experience with deep knowledge of at least one major cloud provider * 7+ years of Relational (Microsoft SQL Server - Preferred) Database technologies * 5+ years architecting high availability database solutions * Strong knowledge of SQL * Experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), and SQL Server transactional replication * Strong background with Windows servers and scripting (PowerShell, etc.) Desired Experience * Working knowledge of more than one cloud provider preferred * Working knowledge of cloud active directory authentication preferred * Working knowledge of automation/scripting tool experience with tools like Azure DevOps, GIT, Jenkins, Ansible and Infrastructure as code concepts preferred * Experience managing multi-tiered enterprise application architectures preferred Skills and Abilities * Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills a must * Detail oriented * Demonstrates the capability to solve unique and complex problems by applying critical thinking patterns * Demonstrates ability to think conceptually * Strong mentoring and coaching ability * Ability to work both independently (self-motivated and self-initiated) and in a team environment (teamwork focused) * Ability to build/maintain strong relationships and effectively partner with peers * Understands and adapts to new or changing situations, requirements, or priorities * Flexibility to learn new skills quickly * Customer service mindset #LI-123
