American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) and advanced
registry in Computed Tomography (CT) or registry-eligible
Certifications: BLS Must-Have: ARRT CT Certification Description:
Under general supervision, specializes in the performance of
computerized tomographic radiological procedures on patients. May
perform general diagnostic radiology examinations. Explains
examination procedures to patients and prepares them for the
examination. Reviews clinical data on requisition and performs
appropriate examination. Obtains additional information about the
patient’s medical history as necessary. Prepares procedure room and
regularly replenishes stock such as linen and related supplies.
Analyzes anatomical structures of patients, sets up equipment, and
performs the CT scan. Manually controls the equipment to obtain the
proper diagnostic information from the area of the body being
studied. Administers intravenous contrast media, including the
utilization of power injectors. Monitors patients for possible
reactions as appropriate to the study and provides immediate care
if a reaction occurs. May prepare and set up sterile equipment,
monitors, and supplies required for the procedure to be performed.
Ensures adequate supplies are on hand and properly stored. Assists
in performing complex sterile diagnostic procedures such as
biopsies. Performs all imaging procedures by demonstrating
principles of radiation protection. May involve shielding of
patients and selecting appropriate equipment settings to reduce
dose using ALARA techniques. Resolves any and all image exceptions
and ensures high-quality image delivery into PACS. Completes all
study indexing including study begin, study end, and the completion
of the study in the Radiology Information System. Reviews and
confirms clinical protocols with Radiologist before performing the
study. Demonstrates on a consistent basis team member standards of
excellence, including open communication and fostering innovation.
Performs all documentation in the medical record as necessary, as
well as within the radiology information system. May work in a
fixed unit or in an ambulatory mobile unit. May be potentially
exposed to radiation if proper precautions are not utilized. May be
exposed to contagious patients. Occasionally may lift and/or move
equipment and/or patients that would be in excess of 10 lbs. Must
meet or exceed core customer service responsibilities and
standards. Must be self-directed, flexible, committed to the team
concept, and demonstrate initiative and willingness to learn.
Accepts and respects diversity without judgment. Demonstrates
customer service values. High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
is required. Must maintain required hours of continued medical
