experience in a Trauma Level 1 facility, Cath Lab experience
License: Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic
Technology (ARRT) Certifications: BLS Must-Have: Candidates must
work as an IR Tech, not general X-ray Description: Under the
direction of a Radiologist, the technologist specializes in the
performance of procedures of an invasive nature to aid in the
evaluation of pathological entities as prescribed by a physician.
The technologist will explain examination procedures to patients
and prepare them for the examination. Additional information about
the patient's medical history will be obtained as necessary.
Prescribed contrast media, medications, and IV solutions will be
prepared for administration to patients. Clinical data on
requisition will be reviewed, and the anatomical structure of the
patient will be analyzed. Equipment will be set up and, following
protocols, the technologist will assist the Radiologist in
performing complex diagnostic invasive procedures. Sterile
equipment, physiological monitors, pressure injectors, and imaging
equipment required for the procedure will be prepared and set up.
Adequate supplies such as needles and catheters must be on hand and
properly stored. Supplies will be replenished as appropriate. The
technologist will actively assess the patient’s condition before,
during, and after all procedures. Manual control of the equipment
will be utilized to obtain proper diagnostic information for the
area of the body being studied. The technologist may assist with
the training of new personnel and/or students assigned to the
division. All imaging procedures will be performed by demonstrating
principles of radiation protection. This may involve shielding
patients, selecting appropriate equipment settings to reduce dose,
and using other ALARA techniques. Image exceptions will be resolved
to ensure high-quality image delivery. Completion of all study
indexing in the Radiology Information System will be required.
Clinical protocols will be reviewed and confirmed with the
Radiologist before performing studies. Demonstration of Team Member
Standards of Excellence will be expected. Quality Assurance
procedures will be performed as appropriate. All necessary
documentation in the medical record and the radiology information
system will be completed to support clinical functions. Related
functions will be performed according to department protocols.
Independent judgment will be utilized in determining appropriate
imaging techniques, patient positioning, and safety practices.
