Job Description:

The Cleveland Clinic Innovations (CCI) Director, Business Development and Licensing, is responsible for leading the strategy, business development, partnering and licensing functions for a portfolio of innovations at the Cleveland Clinic, spanning Medical Devices, Therapeutics, Life Science Tools and Diagnostics and Health Tech. The Director will collaborate closely with Cleveland Clinic inventors and clinicians in developing and implementing a commercialization strategy for CCI and will serve as the primary point of contact for the Cleveland Clinic to an extensive network of external commercial partners, funding sources and peer institutions in advancing the commercialization of Cleveland Clinic technologies. The Director will also lead the development and implementation of partnering and licensing strategies across the portfolio of technologies, including partner due diligence and outreach, directing the development of marketing materials with the support of the Marketing and Communications team and leveraging multiple channels to reach prospects capable of bringing Cleveland Clinic technologies to market. Additionally, the Director will be responsible for initiating and leading the construction and negotiation of licensing and option agreements and managing relationships with key commercial partners post-agreement execution. In addition to leading the business development effort, the Director will collaborate closely with the Cleveland Clinic New Company team in identifying and pursuing opportunities to commercialize Cleveland Clinic technologies through new venture creation, as well as evaluating potential opportunities for the Cleveland Clinic to invest in select Cleveland Clinic commercial partners. The Director will also work closely with the Cleveland Clinic Corporate Strategy team in proactively exploring, negotiating and executing strategic collaborations with key innovation partners.An ideal candidate would have: - advanced degree in relevant field including MBA, MA/MS, PhD, MD, or JD degree-5 or more years experience in negotiating licensing and related agreements for industry or tech transferResponsibilities:

  • Actively sell Cleveland Clinic technologies. Negotiate and execute simple and complex partnerships and sales agreements for Cleveland Clinic Innovations.
  • Responsible for relatively medium volume of technologies.
  • Attend medical and venture capital conferences to identify potential customers.
  • Participate in special projects and evaluate external technologies.
  • Work with Cleveland Clinic Innovations Development Team to identify and prioritize technologies that are in the internal pipeline, and communicate feedback on current industry needs.
  • Work with Cleveland Clinic Licensing Team on closing license deals for Cleveland Clinic innovations.
  • Track and report on sales agreements, and brand growth.
  • Integrate with and support all teams.
  • Uphold compliance to regulatory requirements in all areas of operations.

    • Bachelor's degree in life or physical sciences, biomedical engineering, finance, business or other related field.
    • An advanced degree in business administration or other relevant is preferred.Languages:

          • Must have the ability to communicate effectively with academic and corporate sectors and comprehend details of new and diverse technologies.
          • Must be a self-starter with strong work ethics and excellent marketing and negotiation skills.

          • Must work well in a cross-functional team setting.Work Experience:
            • A minimum 5 years of relevant experience in health care industry (medical devices, therapeutics, diagnostics, HIT).
            • Minimum 5 years of demonstrated success in team participation.
            • Minimum 3 years of demonstrated success in healthcare industry sales.Physical Requirements:
              • Manual dexterity to operate office equipment.
              • May require periods of sitting, standing and the ability to walk to various locations throughout the health system to attend meetings.
              • Must have normal or corrected vision and be able to clearly communicate verbally by phone or in person.Personal Protective Equipment:
                • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
