It is with great pleasure that we announce our partnership with
The Salvation Army Greater Cleveland (TSAGC) in Cleveland, Ohio in
the search for its Donor Relations Director (DRD). This is an
exciting opportunity to work with The Salvation Army Greater
Cleveland and comes at a pivotal point in the life of TSAGC and its
mission to "preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human
needs in His name without discrimination."The Donor Relations
Director will play an integral role in the success of Greater
Cleveland Area Services' fund development efforts, specifically
leading in all major gift strategies and communication. The DRD
will bear the primary responsibility for managing major donors,
which will include overseeing a portfolio of high-end donors and
prospects within the Greater Cleveland Area Services. In this role,
the DRD will identify, meet with, cultivate, solicit, steward, and
upgrade major gift prospects and donors, acting as the primary
contact between The Salvation Army and these major donors.The DRD
will work directly with the Greater Cleveland Director of
Development along with leadership and staff for the Greater
Cleveland Area Services Command to serve the complete needs of
Greater Cleveland. The right candidate will operate creatively and
effectively to draw on significant wealth in the region. Building
relationships with Corps commands/Institutions (Harbor Light)
across Greater Cleveland; with GCAS leadership; with GCAS Advisory
Board; and with leaders in key program areas such as Emergency
Disaster Services, will be critical to connecting donors and
prospects with major giving opportunities, further enhancing
Divisional fundraising.CANDIDATE ROLE, PROFILE & QUALIFICATIONSHe
or she will report to the Greater Cleveland Director of Development
with additionalreporting to, and technical assistance from, the
Eastern Territory Office of Special Gifts inWest Nyack, New
York.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Establish and create a strategic communications plan to
identify, educate, cultivate, andsolicit major gifts.
- Record activities and gifts received in the donor database for
timely access andconsistent sharing of major donor information.
- Manage a portfolio of at least 125 major donors and follow
individualizedcommunication plans reflecting the interests and
philanthropic desires of each donorand prospect.
- Retain and upgrade donors through effective, warm and
relational personal contactstrategies, tactics and personal style.
- Establish and work to meet annual goals for fundraising and for
each major donor onthe caseload.
- Participate with the NEOSA Development Director, select
advisory board members andSalvation Army Officers to chart the
course of the organization's major gifts program.
- Establish strong working relationships with Corps Officers and
program staff, serviceunits and special programs, to better
understand Greater Cleveland Area Services'fundraising needs and
maximize participation of others-especially Officers in
donorinteractions.
- Ensure that fund development is carried out in keeping with the
organization's values,mission, vision, and plans.
- Keep current on the philanthropic and public relations
interests of donors throughregular contact with them.
- Travel out regularly to meet personally with donors. Encourage
officers and boardmembers to participate in donor visits.
- Provide leadership in all one-to-one solicitation, gift
acknowledgement, andstewardship communication.
- Work in conjunction with other fund development officers,
ensuring collaborationbetween direct mail, foundation, corporate,
and planned giving efforts.
- Write proposals for major donors. These will often include
requests for financial giftsof specific amounts.
- Help shape overall policies and strategies to continually
increase major gifts revenueand programming strength.
- As directed by the Divisional General Secretary or Divisional
Director of Development,assume other responsibilities including but
not limited to participation and attendanceat Division
events.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience giving assurance of
job performance ability.
- A demonstrated track record of success in fundraising or
similar activity requiring anequivalent skill set.
- Effective interpersonal skills and excellent written and oral
communication abilities.
- Proven expertise in building and maintaining positive
relationships with diverseindividuals.
- A self-motivated professional with great problem-solving skills
who exudesenthusiasm and energy along with a demonstrated ability
to set and achieve goals andmeet deadlines.
- A high degree of comfort interacting with people of wealth and
discussing complex,sensitive issues of personal and family
finances; ability to "make the ask."
- Willingness to travel regularly combined with the ability and
commitment to nurturedonor relationships effectively from a
distance.
- A proficiency in Word and Excel; experience with donor tracking
and/or databasesoftware is preferred.
- Collaborative and energetic team player.
