Senior Director Patient Safety And Reliability Cleveland, Ohio Senior Director Patient Safety And Reliability req # 111116 Location Cleveland, Ohio Facility Cleveland Clinic Main Campus Professional Area Management Department 2660 Quality Improvement-Clinical Transformation Jobcode T99457 Schedule Full Time Shift 8:00am-5:00pm Job Details Lead the enterprise safety and high reliability improvement efforts in partnership with the Medical Director. Improves safety outcomes and high reliability culture and processes across the health system. Develops effective, actionable data collection, analysis and management practices; designs and implements enterprise wide education programs to support safety initiatives. Collaborates leadership and other stakeholders to continuously improve the program and outcomes. Utilizes the Cleveland Clinic Improvement Model along with other tools to deliver results and engage teams. Ensures that adequate change management is done to create adoption and sustainment of results.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Defines patient safety initiatives in conjunction with the quality leadership team and key stakeholders. Supports caregiver safety improvement initiatives in partnership with Occupational Health and Human Resources.
  • Develops and implements standardized policies, procedures and practice standards as they relate to safety.
  • Maintains communication with Executive Leadership and Hospital Leadership on safety programs.
  • Defines and leads resource needs and allocation to collaborate with Hospitals and Institutes to manage performance.
  • Assesses and recommends a data collection, analysis, and management system that supports improvement across the enterprise.
  • Designs and implements an enterprise-wide educational program on safety and high reliability.
  • Responsible for identifying and communicating applicable regulatory requirements, especially those that may affect patient safety and caregiver safety.
  • Collaborates with Safety and Quality Leadership to set common goals, communication, implementation strategies for CCHS Quality and Safety Program.
  • Prioritizes safety improvement projects.
  • Coordinates the efforts of patient safety professionals for the enterprise.
  • Researches best practices within and outside the organization.--
  • Stays current with the latest trends in high reliability.
  • Oversees the event reporting system and analysis of precursor and patient harm events.
  • Leads efforts to ensure performance on patient safety rating systems such as Leapfrog.
  • Builds relationships with project teams, core management, and senior sponsors.
  • Teaches and helps lead Cleveland Clinic safety and high reliability courses.
  • Other duties as assignedEducation:
    • Bachelors of Science degree required.
    • Master's degree required. This requirement can be offset with 10 or more years' experience in a similar role.Certifications:
      • Certified Patient Safety Professional within one year of hire.
      • CPHQ preferred.Competencies (Complexity of Work):
        • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, including proven ability to collaborate with physician and executive leadership.
        • Exceptional communication and influencing skills are required at multiple levels of the organization, from front line teams to executive leadership.
        • Proven ability to build and effectively manage functional teams.
          • Experience in developing curriculum, and education around high reliability
          • Ability to lead improvement, achieve and sustain results.
          • Ability to engage senior management.
          • Ability to lead groups in building improvement that enable desired behaviors and results.
          • Requires critical thinking, decisive judgment.
          • Must be able to work in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment and take appropriate action.
          • Demonstrate expertise in high reliability and safety principles.
          • Ability to synthesize high volumes of patient safety events into actions that improve overall patient safety.
          • Must be able to coach, develop and inspire teams to success with varying level of improvement skills.Work Experience:
            • Minimum 7 years healthcare experience
            • Minimum 5 years of patient safety experience preferred.
            • Supervisory experience required
            • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement significant initiatives within a complex, matrixed environment.Physical Requirements:
              • Manual dexterity to operate office equipment.
              • May require extended periods of standing, walking or sitting.
                • Good visual acuity through normal or corrected vision to normal range.
                • Manual dexterity to operate office equipment.
                • Must have own transportation to travel to multiple sitesPersonal Protective Equipment:
