Job Description:
PURPOSE OF THE JOBThe Capital Delivery Engineer (CDE) Controls
and Automation Engineer is a key leadership and execution role for
delivering outcomes that are aligned with the Global Advanced
Manufacturing (AM) portfolio. The CDE is responsible for executing
the Controls & Automation workstreams of capital projects that will
increase reliability, availability, reporting and monitoring of the
plant facilities and equipment. Common duties for the CDE will be
leading the definition of new application requirements, updating
existing applications based on functional requirements, providing
cost/benefit tradeoff analysis to management, prototyping,
designing, integrating, and testing robotic and automation systems,
deploying automation systems to the manufacturing floor, and
assuring effective training for operations and maintenance. The CDE
owns the overall success for all aspects of capital projects (start
to finish) and is accountable to ensure the business outcomes of
the projects are realized and sustainable. A successful CDE
provides leadership through efficient management of resources,
synchronization of project management concepts and effective
communication to all stake holders are central accountabilities to
this role.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical Depth
- Acts as the primary expert on automation systems and concepts
to improve production methods, equipment performance, facility
layout and quality of product leveraging the following technical
capabilities/skills/experience:
- PLC/HMI programming/troubleshooting and support, including
drives and line drive systems
- Robotics, motion controls, motors, pneumatics, electronics, and
basic scripting
- Articulation and movement of equipment
- CAD design knowledge with Solidworks, AutoCAD, or
equivalent
- Electrical design and understanding of P&IDs
- Industrial networks and communication protocols (IT/OT)
- Delivering solutions that are at step 3 of autonomous
maintenance (TPM)
- Design, create, develop and manage systems (eg factory and
process automation) to make the systems work by themselves or
require a minimum level of human interaction.
- Partner with operations/technical leaders to understand and
solve business needs by integrating off-the-shelf solutions or
developing new solutions where no-off-the shelf technology
exists.
- Leverage partnerships with best-in-industry vendors to drive
innovation through emerging technology.
Project Leadership
- Accountable for the scope, budget, resources, assumptions,
communication, change management, training, testing, deployment,
controls and user acceptance for the project.
- Apply project management expertise and other best
practices/tools to define, execute, and fully own project plans
from end-to-end.
- Lead and engage plant leadership teams and engineers to
identify and translate business needs into clear project and system
specifications.
- Develop and forecast project plans and project budget to ensure
on-time and on-budget delivery.
- Collaborate with and provide clear and consistent
communications to all project stakeholders.
- Manage the transition to plant personnel to ensure adoption of
change, project benefits are achieved, and project outcomes are
sustainable.
- Adhere to project management processes and actively participate
in reviews and stage gate deliverables.
Metrics
- On-time and on-budget project delivery
- Implementation of project deliverables in alignment with
standards/controls, business requirements and any approved scope
changes
- Resource productivity (machine or person)
- Monthly actual and forecast financials regarding business
benefits
- Post project metrics - number of open issues, negative impacts
to business operations, etc.
Leading and Developing Talent
- Builds solid performing project teams and works with leaders to
develop and engage team members according to individual development
plans.
- Ensures the roles and responsibilities are articulated to each
team member, modified as required, and accomplished throughout the
project.
- Discusses growth and development plans with the appropriate
leaders to ensure project accountabilities support and are aligned
to individual development growth plans.
- Recommends and supports project-specific mentoring
relationships for growth areas on the project and helps to secure
the commitment of the mentor/expert.
- Provides clear and concise performance feedback as appropriate
to peers, leaders, and stakeholders.

members for successful execution

JOB REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical
Engineering Technology, or a closely related field.
- 5-10 years in a manufacturing environment. Master's degree
preferred.
- Hands on experience with PLCs/HMI, drives, robots, motion
controls and associated programming software as well as technical
project management.
- Ability to travel 20-35% globally
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Project Leadership - previous execution of small to large scale
projects, possibly including initiatives with global reach,
technology, processes, cross-functional teams and partner team
members, PMI certification preferred
- Partner Relationships - experience with cross-functional teams
that include third party expertise. Aptitude to build strategic and
execution-focused plans and alliances with partner leadership
- Project Management Science / Capability - training and
application of industry best practice processes and tools regarding
the effective management of projects, including, but not limited
to, scope, schedule, cost, risk, resource, and issue
management
- Strong Communications - effective planning and execution of
communications for stakeholders, both written and verbal
- Business Acumen - experience with business operations; aptitude
/ desire to grow in the knowledge of the Owens Corning business;
conveyance of business acumen to project team members
- Global Perspective -understanding of how Owens Corning operates
business globally
- Understanding of the pillars and principles of Total Productive
Maintenance (TPM)
