Job Description:
Summary Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) mission
is to lead the DoD in finance and accounting by ensuring the
delivery of efficient, exceptional quality pay and financial
information. Responsibilities Drafts non-technical correspondence
on topics such as, office procedures, requests for information, and
the handling of Congressional or other sensitive matters based on
knowledge of unwritten policies, precedents, and practices. Reviews
correspondence prepared by self and others for content, correct
grammar, spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and appropriate
format. On own initiative and discretion, establishes priorities,
sets up, reschedules, or refuses appointments, accepts or declines
invitations to meetings, and arranges for representation by a
substitute official when necessary. Reminds the supervisor of
appointments, obtains background information on subject matters,
and presents information to supervisor prior to scheduled phone
call, visitor or meeting. Reviews and processes incoming
correspondence. Advises office and subordinate secretarial staff on
administrative and procedural requirements. Requirements Conditions
of Employment Qualifications Typing proficiency requirement: You
must be able to type at least 40 words per minute or more with
minimal errors. One year of specialized experience equivalent in
level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower
grade (GS-05) within the federal service, which demonstrates the
ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.
Specialized experience is defined as: performing a variety of
administrative support functions which includes providing
administrative, technical and general office support duties to an
organization; providing support and assistance on personnel,
supply, training, and budget reporting and processes; utilizing
office automation to create, retrieve, update, manipulate and store
electronic data; and preparing, editing and formatting documents
and reports. Examples of specialized experience includes: Use of
Personal Computers and a variety of software functions, such as
database, word processing, graphics, and spreadsheets, booking
travel, office reception work, or supply ordering. Education GS-06
Substitution of Education for Experience: Six months of graduate
education may be substituted to meet the specialized experience
required when it is directly related to the work of the position
being filled. If you are relying on your education to meet

accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of
Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications.

Standards Act. Travel requirement is seldom (1-24%.) This position
